SUMMARY : On the set of a film, Nadine Chevalier is humiliated by the director, in front of Servais Mont, a freelance photographer. Moved by the actress's disgraceful treatment, he visits her at home the next day. There, he meets Jacques, her husband, an eccentric man hiding a deep-seated illness.
The next day, Nadine and Servais meet again. A deep friendship blossoms between these two people, both of whom life has weakened. Without telling her, Servais decides to offer Nadine a leading role in a play. But to do so, he is forced to borrow a large sum of money from Mazelli, a blackmailer.

ABOUT THE FILM : Directed by Andrzej Zulawski (Possession), The Important Thing is to Love is the film that brought the filmmaker to public attention. Adapted from Christopher Frank's novel, The Night Before Christmas, the film is a tragic tale in which the main protagonists hide a sense of unease. By revealing the viewer's behind-the-scenes story, Zulawski shows himself to be merciless with the world of show business. Carried by the beautiful music of Georges Delerue, The Important Thing is to Love benefits from a cast in a state of grace, from Fabio Testi to Jacques Dutronc, including Klaus Kinski and Claude Dauphin, not forgetting Romy Schneider, of course, who received the César Award for Best Actress for this film.
