SUMMARY : Arletty, a young Californian, travels to the small town of Point Dune, on the Pacific Ocean, after receiving a letter (with strange words) from her father, Joseph Long, whom she hasn't seen for a long time. When she arrives at his home, Arletty finds it deserted. She moves in, then sets out to find her father. She then notices that the town is plagued by strange phenomena, and meets Thom, accompanied by his mistresses, Laura and Toni. Shortly after, while searching the house, Arletty finds her father's diary. What he says is terrifying...
ABOUT THE FILM : Directed by Gloria Katz / Willard Huyck in 1973, Messiah of Evil is an atypical horror film, in which the unreal and the poetic collide wonderfully. This macabre poetry, close to Herk Harvey's Carnival of Souls (1962), or John Hancock's Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971), transports the viewer into a true waking nightmare, haunted, among others, by Marianna Hill (High Plains Drifter), Anitra Ford (Invasion of the Bee Women) and Elisha Cook Jr. (Electra Glide in Blue).
BONUS : • Interview with director Willard Huyck (37 mins) • What the Blood Moon Brings: Messiah of Evil, An American Nightmare (57 min) • American Gothic and Female Hysteria (22 min)
